Let's Nail those Goals! A Simple Step to Achieving BIG goals.

At the end of every month, I do a check of the goals that I set for that month. Which short term goals did I achieve? How far have I reached in the long term goals? What worked? What didn’t work?

Doing this helps me keep track of my success. It also helps me with planning, avoiding goal fatigue and increasing my motivation to continue.

One of the things that helps me successfully achieve my goals is breaking them into small steps. Sometimes my goals may seem hard to achieve initially but when broken into simple steps, the light at the end of the tunnel becomes clearer.

For example, for the month of April, I joined a challenge with some wonderful people at my church. The challenge is to run 40 miles for the month. For those of you who move regularly, that may seem like nothing. But for those of us whose movement is mostly from the sofa to the fridge, 40 miles is a lot!

However, I did what comes naturally to someone who sets goals regularly - I broke it down into smaller steps!

First I started with the monthly goal and broke it down into a weekly goal like this - 40 miles divided by 4 weeks = 10 miles per week.

I then broke it down into a daily goal. I’m able to intentionally exercise for an average of 5 days per week. The calculation then becomes 10 miles per week divided by 5 days = 2 miles per day. For me, that is SO achievable!

What makes it even better is that in the weeks I’m not able to exercise for 5 days, I can increase the miles by just a little and still achieve my goal without being overwhelmed!

So you get the idea right? Take the big goal and break it down into smaller, achievable steps. It helps!

To help you even further, I’ve created a downloadable guide to setting achievable goals and creating a visualization tool to help you stay motivated. You can get more info on it here: Goal Setting Guide.

Happy Goal Setting!
